Six Months Down... Six Months To Go

Today is officially the halfway point in this blog. Hooray! I'm in Season 4 of DS9 and right on schedule to get everything finished by the end of the year. I can't believe the way it's flown by. I'm already dreading the year coming to an end but I'm trying not to think too much about it. Instead, I'm thinking about some of my favorite stuff from the year so far.

I'm thinking about how surprised I was by how amazing TOS was. Even though I re-watched most of the episodes just a couple of years ago, seeing everything in order, from the start, in the context of this blog made a huge difference.

I'm thinking about how much of my personal history TNG brought up, how much of my life is tied into that series, how well I knew the episodes, and how much I found myself not wanting to say good bye to those characters in the seventh season.

I'm thinking about how much I'm loving DS9. I didn't get to see much of this series during its first run. My life was in a constant state of flux for several years and between moving around at least once a year and my parents not having cable, I ended up missing a lot of the episodes. I caught up over time in reruns and a couple years ago made a concerted effort to watch as much of it as I could but it's still surprising to me how much this show has grown on me. It's quite different from the other Treks. Darker, moodier, and maybe it took quite a while for it to really find its voice (basically season 4) but it has what every Trek ultimately has: a good dose of wonder and curiosity, optimism, and heart.

I'm thinking about how some of my weekly posts have gone by the wayside. Should I bring back Weekend Roundup? Or the Season Essentials? Do you like things the way they are? Do you want more Captain's Vlogs?

I'm thinking about what I have left. Several movies, a couple seasons of DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise are all waiting for me. There's also the unknown. I never anticipated creating a bunch of art. I also didn't expect my little project to develop such a strong, wonderful readership. It's caught me completely by surprise and I appreciate every comment, every bit of encouragement and enthusiasm, every conversation I've had about My Year Of Star Trek.

I can't wait to see what's next!

  1. I definitely enjoyed the Season Essentials--I always forget which great episodes were in which season, and having them listed together, in order, a few weeks apart helped to solidify them in my memory.

    Also, Captain's Vlogs are cool.

    1. Yes! I think I'll bring back the Season Essentials. It's nice to create those lists right when they're fresh in my mind.

  2. Hard to believe you're halfway through!

I've been roughly mirroring your watch list- it started out as coincidence, because I used to jump around a lot watching TNG on Netflix. One day you recapped an episode that I had just watched, and I decided to go in order from there. I'm right about where you are now w/ DS9, and I'm actually quite surprised by just how much I'm loving it. I did watch the series when it first aired, but I missed several episodes, and I never really watched it in reruns. Revisiting it now has given me a much deeper appreciation for it. Especially now- great episodes in the fourth season!

I did like the Season Essentials- I think they would be a great resource for people who (unlike me) are not going to watch every single one. It's also interesting to me to see if I come up w/ the same list!

I think I've said this before, but I am SO happy I found your blog when I did earlier this year. For a variety of reasons, I found it exactly when I needed to, and following along has brought me joy.

Yes, more vlogs! And how about another contest? I LOVED participating in the portrait one- more like this! (I'm sure it's super time-consuming...so whatever you come up with would be great!)

Thank you for all you're putting into this project.

    1. Oh KJ, thank you so much! I'm so glad you're hear reading the blog and that it makes you happy! That's my whole goal!!! I do agree that the Season Essentials were a nice addition to the blog and I do actually miss them. Maybe I'll do one post catching up on DS9 and then kick-start them at the end of Season Four! I also would like to do more Vlogs! Gotta figure out what to talk about! For me, writing is so much more natural than talking to the camera. Haha!

And I'm PLANNING on another contest! I have it all worked out, I just need to put the time in and get it prepped!

Thank you again KJ! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your readership!

  3. I like the Essentials and the Weekend Roundups. They provide a quick insight into your opinions and feelings about many episodes, and I, like others, I asssume, like comparing my thoughts with yours.
