Almost a year ago, I visited my dad in Kentucky and re-watched the original Star Trek pilot. That visit turned out to be a pretty great experience and it led to the very first post in this project. Tonight, I saw my dad again and watched the Star Trek: Enterprise pilot, Broken Bow.
When I told my dad that I needed to start Enterprise he said the following things:
-What? The one with the Klingon in the cornfield?
-And they have don't know ANYTHING.
-I mean, they don't even have a tractor beam. It's all hull plating.
-And the Vulcans are all jerks.
He then proceeded to act out various parts of the episode as if he were Archer, Tucker, T'Pol and the Vulcan Commander, Soval.
When all this was over I said, "Yep, that's the one."
And then we started up the Netflix.
Man, it's been a while since I re-watched this show. About three years. And it's been over ten years since the first time I watched it with my dad. It was pretty awesome. I loved every bit of it. The power ballad theme song, the jerk Vulcans, scared-as-hell-Hoshi, adorable Phlox and his pets/lunch. I loved it. I'll write more about it tomorrow. Right now, I've gotta go hang out with my dad.
What a great thing to do with your dad. It sounds like you guys had fun!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I realized this past week? I've seen practically none of Enterprise. The episodes I do remember are from later seasons. In hindsight, I remember why. This show debuted in the wake of September 11, 2001- and just days after I gave birth to my daughter. I was in a crazy weird depressed fog for a very long time. I had been looking forward to the new show in the months leading up to it, but when the time actually came, my state of mind and the realities of having a newborn prevented me from watching. I think I may have even blocked it from my mind for some reason. So...there's a big positive for me: it's twelve years later, and I get to watch a Star Trek series that's almost like new!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pics. You guys look like you're having so much fun!
